I had the pleasure of sitting down with one of UPS’s drivers over dinner a few weeks ago.
Naturally, I grilled him for all his best stories. There are a bunch.
One thing I noted was that among drivers, you don’t call it a “Truck”. No, no. If you’re cool, you call it, your “Car”.
Anyway, when exiting your ‘car’, you obviously don’t provide the same signal to the world (by way of a door swinging open) that somebody might be stepping out. The doors on UPS trucks slide, right?
So care is taken. However, when stepping out onto a sidewalk, you kinda think you’re safe from oncoming traffic. Well.., in the case of bikes and scooters, this isn’t entirely true.
“You got hit by a kid on a scooter?”
“Yeah! I got slammed! Pow!”
“Gosh. You don’t think a scooter would be so dangerous. What did you do?”
“I called it in and I took the rest of the day off! Those things pack a punch. I went down like a sack of bricks!”
